This has been dubbed the Month of “BAMBI!” In March I introduced my little girl to my favorite movie growing up. My mother in law let me borrow it because she has a ton of old disney movies and I figured the kids would like it because its filled with animals. Little did I know that it would be what Zoriah would fixate on for the next several months. She still wanted to read the kitty books and duck and goose, but Bambi won out over almost everything else. And we watched that movie about 4 times a day for weeks on end. I now know all the words to “drip drip drop little april showers” …. yeah. we watched it THAT much!
Walt Disney Bambi (Disney Classic Series)
This book became our Best Friend. Its HUGE but she insisted on dragging it with her everywhere. She got mad at it in the car when She couldn’t hold onto it very well and it kept sliding. It simply goes through the movie in pictures and tells the story just how it is in the movie. The perfect Bambi Reference book.
Walt Disney Productions Presents Bambi Grows Up
This was a cute book. It only has about 1/2 the story. Nothing about the running from the fire or anything like that. But it does have a lovely bit where Bambi fights Rono (the other male deer) to defend Faline. Zoriah liked yelling “Bambi” “Owl” and “Flu” (Flower) and counting the baby quail. All in all a very cute book.
Disney’s Thumper (Disney’s Wonderful World of Reading)
This one was more a book for Zachary actually. He seemed to like it more than she did. She still insisted we read it as part of the Bambi series when we were reading all the library books, but at bedtime she would choose one of the other ones. Its probably because this one has more pictures of thumper than of Bambi. It tells of how thumper and his family escape a fire and save everyone. Fun book, but an insufficient number of Pictures of Bambi for Zoriah’s taste.
And FINALLY a non-Bambi book that she liked. This one was about a kitty named Mittens. It was an easy-reader book that I actually got for Zachary to read, but Zoriah claimed it as her own and demanded repeated readings. Its about a tiny kitten who goes home with his new owner and tries to find a “Quite place just for him”. He ends up purring in his new owners arms and all is happy in the world. Great easy reader book for Zachary and cute kitty book for Zoriah.
Those were the books over which we obsessed this month. Hope you like them!
